Rod Letonja

AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Associate Principal, Corporate and Commercial, Washington, D.C.

Born in Santiago, Chile, Rod has always had a passion for design. His family moved to the United States when he was in second grade and he spent the rest of his formative years in Northern Virginia. Rod went on to study architecture in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he began his career. His professional path is rich with diverse experience in many practice areas, which has contributed to his ability be equally adept in architecture and interior design.

As a practice leader, Rod considers himself a “nudger.”  He strives to create a free-flowing workplace where his team can explore different concepts that may sometimes feel out of the ordinary. He believes the uncomfortable feeling when pushing boundaries can lead to conceptualizing extraordinary design concepts.

When Rod is not working, he enjoys spending time with his three kids and cheering on his North Carolina State Wolfpack.

“If you’re able to find an unobvious solution and make things better—if you take on that one extra step of design exploration and find that one moment or that one gesture that really elevates the level of design and make something out of the ordinary and unique—that’s success. And to think that such a solution simply arose from a ‘what if…’.”
