Diversity + Inclusion + Engagement

We believe diversity drives innovation and inclusion sparks creativity. It’s that simple.

When different perspectives from people of different backgrounds come together, something incredible happens: They paint a shared canvas of ideas with bolder, brighter colors. They unleash infinite potential.

By embracing diversity and inclusion, we’re designing a more vibrant, dynamic world. We’re helping communities move beyond socially constructed barriers and stereotypes and toward an open, united, engaged, productive society. We’re empowering people. We’re innovating.

And it starts right here, with you. When diversity becomes part of our design thinking, it shapes our every choice, our every behavior. We become a better, stronger, more agile firm. We make the world a safer, more equitable place.

Together, we’re igniting an industry sea change.

Celebrating a world of differences.
Revolutionizing the world of design.

We’re proud to lead our industry by example. Our Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement program supports and strengthens a firmwide culture that embraces and celebrates all people, regardless of age, culture, ethnicity, gender identity, language, physical ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, size, or socioeconomic status. Inclusion is paramount. Because when people feel included, they feel inspired and empowered. And that leads to innovation.

Our firm’s people-first philosophy is built on three core principles:

  • A diverse talent pool mirrors the DIVERSITY of our clients and communities, and ensures “outside-the-box” design thinking.
  • The INCLUSION of many voices—both within our firm and in the communities we serve—gives everyone the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way. This leads to more enriched design solutions.
  • People who feel included are naturally more engaged, and ENGAGEMENT creates a sense of pride, ownership, and accountability.

To ensure we uphold these principles in all aspects of our work, we established the design industry’s first Diversity Council. Led by our Director of Global Diversity—a pioneering role championed and fulfilled by architect Gabrielle Bullock, FAIA, IIDA, NOMA, LEED AP—the Council is made up of a rotating cross-section of staff from various Perkins+Will offices around the world. The Council is charged with devising a strategy to build and sustain a firmwide culture that celebrates human differences—and, in turn, ensuring this strategy is implemented into everyday business practices.

“We are deliberate and intentional in our commitment to diversity and inclusion. Because if we’re not intentionally inclusive, we risk being unintentionally exclusive.” —Gabrielle Bullock, Director of Global Diversity, Perkins+Will
