“The Architects Series,” a short film series which spotlights the world’s top architects and firms, has turned its lens to Schmidt Hammer Lassen (SHL), our Copenhagen studio, for its 47th episode.
Starring SHL design leaders Kristian Ahlmark and Elif Tinaztepe, the half-hour featurette offers a behind-the-scenes look into the processes and principles that shape the Danish firm’s portfolio, including its many notable projects such as the extension to the Royal Library in Copenhagen; ARoS Museum of Art in Aarhus; and The International Criminal Court, The Hague, The Netherlands. SHL, founded in 1986, maintains studios in Copenhagen, Aarhus, and Shanghai. It was acquired by Perkins&Will in 2018.
To celebrate the mini-doc’s premiere, SHL hosted a screening of the short followed by a panel discussion that explored how transformation can give existing buildings new purpose and new possibilities. Panel participants included Morten Nielsen, Professor, PhD at Aarhus School of Architecture; Jakob de Linde, Head of Business Development at Olav de Linde; Lene Damsbo Brix, Founder of MATTER bybrix and Partner at Circue; and Schmidt Hammer Lassen’s Ahlmark and Tinaztepe.
Now in its sixth year of production, “The Architects Series” is produced by the Italian publication THE PLAN in collaboration with Iris Ceramica Group. “The Architects Series: Schmidt Hammer Lassen” is now available to watch on YouTube.
