AIA Georgia Honors Our Projects for Design Excellence and Atlanta Studio with Architecture Firm of the Year

The annual AIA Georgia Design and Honor award program took place this past weekend and our Atlanta studio was awarded for design excellence for two of our built projects and with Architectural Firm of the Year.

The Architecture Firm of the Year Award is bestowed upon a firm whose passion and practice have produced notable architecture and contributions to society for at least a decade and have furthered the objectives of AIA.

“It is a great honor for us to receive the AIA Georgia Firm of the Year Award and be recognized by our peers in the design community,” says Perkins&Will CEO Phil Harrison. “We strive for excellence every day. Our commitment to health and well-being, sustainability and resilience, and social equity through Living Design permeates our client relationships and our work in communities throughout the state.”

Four Decades in The ATL

For over 45 years, we have called Atlanta home.

Located in the heart of the city, the studio has grown to more than 155 strong and is the only studio in the firm that has professionals in every market. Guided by a series of global leaders in Corporate and Commercial, K-12, Higher Education, Science and Technology, Health, Urban Design, Landscape Architecture, and Branded Environments, the studio embodies a transdisciplinary approach that blurs the lines of collaboration.

“During my five years in Atlanta, I’ve had the pleasure to work with extraordinary people delivering exceptional work that has the power to inspire, uplift, and strengthen the spirit of community for our clients and our City,” says Atlanta studio Managing Director, David Dymecki.

Moving in the Spirit

Moving in the Spirit is the new home of a non-profit creative youth development organization by the same name, which uses the art of dance to teach young students the skills they need to grow. The 21,000 gross square foot state-of-the-art classroom and performance facility serves over 500 students and Atlanta community members yearly. The facility is an anchor arts tenant in a new transit-oriented development and will serve neighbors through access to arts education in well-equipped dance studios and a black-box theater.

Merit Design Award
The Eastern

As the final piece of the award-winning Atlanta Dairies courtyard, The Eastern had to solve a demanding programmatic challenge while protecting and enhancing the surroundings. The overhangs, arcades, and dramatic stepping on the exterior create amenities for surrounding site, creates a rich, unique, and memorable performance space.

The 2,300-person music venue, one block away from the Atlanta BeltLine, anchors the Atlanta Dairies site and provides a pedestrian-friendly and urban-minded venue. The building uses the unique triangular and sloping topography to accommodate spectators in a surprisingly intimate and dynamic space, while respecting the scale of the existing Atlanta Dairies buildings.
