John Sadlon

AIA, IIDA
Principal, Workplace, New York

From an early age, John remembers being inspired by the architecture of his bucolic hometown Cazenovia in upstate New York, an area renowned for its rich diversity of architectural styles.  It seems that he always knew he would become an architect; it perfectly balanced his interests in creative problem-solving, functional practicality and contextual design.

Early in his career, John focused on ground-up new construction and adaptive reuse projects before pivoting to workplace interior architecture, specializing in complex headquarters projects for national and global clients.

John is a respected business leader who is dedicated to the role of “client advocate” – strategizing outcomes and minimizing risk on each client’s behalf. Among John’s most outstanding qualities are his acute perception of what is unspoken, and his ability to establish and foster enduring relationships with clients and colleagues alike.

“People want more substance than just an ‘Instagrammable moment’ in their workplace. Our work is our passion… it is a reflection of who we are. Design is as much an expression of the networked relationships to which we belong, as it is a manifestation of the culture and values we uphold.”

John is an IIDA Board Member and Co-Chair of the Leader’s Breakfast event.

The Big Apple's CoRe Podcast: Conversation with John Sadlon

“Any of us can walk down the street in New York and we can see the world for what it is, but as an architect or designer we must be optimistic. We are futurists, thinking about improving the human condition. The headlines that you’re going to read about in two years are the exact designs that are on our desk right now; they are the projects that we are building with our clients right now. There is an incredible energy and also a significant responsibility that comes with that.”
