Brentwood Block
In response to the rapid transformation of the Brentwood Town Centre neighbourhood, our client asked us to develop a master plan for the 3.18 hectare site that enriches the social, environmental, and economic aspects of the evolving surrounding fabric. We developed a forward-thinking and resilient site framework that is flexible and prioritizes a pedestrian-first public realm. Daylit and accessible, a conscious effort was made to holistically understand the opportunities for mobility, environmental comfort, and livability while maintaining an 8.5 FSR.
By placing servicing and vehicular access below grade, the surface of the site is freed up for people, landscape, and social life. A variety of amenities and smaller places for spontaneous interaction maximizes “community collisions,”uniting the site and kickstarting a vibrant, sustainable development.
At Brentwood Block, our studio envisioned a layered landscape that blurs the line between resident life and public realm—where everyday essentials, generous public spaces, and small moments of discovery come together to support a vibrant, shared civic experience. Rather than designing a place people simply pass through, we set out to create a destination that prioritizes community over commuting.
The community centre sits at the heart of the site as a true civic anchor, surrounded by pedestrian-first streets and open spaces that invite movement, gathering, and lingering. With all vehicle infrastructure tucked below grade, the ground plane is given back to people. An integrated system of ramps and stairs gently connects the site from top to bottom, ensuring accessibility for all ages and abilities.
Health and longevity are woven into the fabric of the project—from walkable connections and transit-oriented living to homes designed to support aging in place. At the same time, a comprehensive landscape strategy transforms the site into a living system, restoring habitat and nurturing increased biodiversity. Together, these moves shape a neighborhood that feels open, inclusive, and deeply connected to both people and nature.
