Damen Green Line Station

The Green Line station at Damen Avenue and Lake Street promises the return of elevated train line access to the near West Side for the first time since 1948. That year, several stations were closed which negatively impacted economically disadvantaged residents who had no other means of transportation.

After decades of disinvestment, local business leaders began pushing for rail service. For more than fifteen years, the answer was “no.”

Today, the transit hub is approved. Designed with safety in mind, patrons will see clearly within the building and to and from the street. Additionally, a vibrant mural by a community artist, as well as bike and bus lanes, finally connect the long-neglected community to art and mobility options.
