NorthEdge

Seattle, Washington
Neighborhood Roots

Located across from nationally renowned Gasworks Park at Lake Union, NorthEdge takes advantage of its sloping site to create dramatic terraced courtyards that unite two efficient wings. A highly transparent lobby offers framed views of the lake and access to a public roof.

Three stories step down the hillside to maximize the building’s daylight and views to the lake while also expanding the length of the rooftop gardens for tenants. Terraced courtyards create a feeling of a campus within a single building.

NorthEdge takes cues from the former industrial activities of the working waterfront and from the notable industrial landmarks in Gasworks Park. In a nod to form and function, a cost-effective and energy-efficient cladding system of pre-weathered steel doubles as a striking building feature.

With its close proximity to Gas Works Park and the Burke Gilman trail, we sought to honor the site's industrial history while integrating with the lake and views of downtown Seattle.
