Newell Brands Atlanta Rooftop

Sandy Springs, Georgia
The Mother of Invention

The green-roof design for Newell Brands put Georgia at the vanguard of corporate investment in wellness and outdoor work environments. In eight weeks from concept to construction, we reimagined the brand’s Atlanta workplace with a seasonal garden, terrace, reflecting pool, and canopy.

Our team led site design, from grading and drainage to custom furniture and an illuminated screen wall. But our role was also to work hand in hand with the interiors team, so spaces within the landscape play a pivotal role in the seamlessness of the indoor-outdoor experience. For example, custom features in the entry plaza play off the ceiling pattern of the interior atrium.

The entire greenroof design was built on a superstructure 5 feet above the existing roofline, adding to the complexity of the project within the short design duration.

A reflecting pool adds a focal point, while the terrace is used for weekly barbeques.
Design Excellence

The first major green roof in the city of Sandy Springs, our design set a precedent for stormwater management in Atlanta. With extensive planting over 8,000 square feet of the terrace, it increased capacity to manage runoff while carrying the interior program out onto the roof.

Cloistered work spaces are balanced with collaborative spaces. Formal dining and event spaces are supported by a custom outdoor kitchen. A casual deck offers lounge chairs for taking a break, getting some air, or finding a new perspective.

The green roof, built five feet above the existing roof line, functions as an event space during non-work hours.
