The Iconic Tower and Central Business District
The Central Business District East (CBD East) in Cairo’s New Administrative Capital is a landmark mixed-use development that blends regional culture, innovation, and progress with contemporary urban design. Designed in collaboration with our sister company Dar al-Handasah, the masterplan unifies office, residential, hospitality, and retail buildings while giving each a distinct identity. At its heart stands the 385-meter Iconic Tower, Africa’s tallest building, a sculptural focal point.
A symbolic east-west pedestrian axis evokes the Nile River valley, connecting gardens, water features, and shaded retail walkways across the site. Surrounding towers draw from Egypt’s architectural heritage, using limestone and textured precast concrete to balance elegance and performance. High-performance facades, solar shading, and optimized daylighting ensure comfort and resilience, creating a vibrant, sustainable mixed-use district that sets a new benchmark for development in Egypt.
The tower’s crown is inspired by the lotus bud, a symbol of renewal in ancient Egypt. Its design features an unopened flower form wrapped around a series of stacked petals, creating a sculptural top that is both elegant and meaningful. Visible from across the city, the crown serves as a contemporary emblem for the fresh beginning and future aspirations of Egypt’s new capital.
