Blending History and Community

Originally completed in 1925 by sugar baron B.T. Rogers, Shannon Estate is one of Vancouver’s premier heritage sites. In 2008, Peter Wall, the estate’s third owner, sought to restore the heritage assets to their original splendor, and provide a variety of multi-family housing, common amenities, and public open space.

Honouring this important historic site, we developed a master plan around the heritage assets, balancing open space with the introduction of 600 homes to the property. Integrating a quiet design, the new multi-family residences blend into the whilst drawing attention to the historical Beaux Arts Mansion, Gatehouse, Coach House, and elaborate landscaped gardens. Celebrating this rich landscaped amenity, the estate grounds enclosures at the perimeter were retained to maintain the ‘secret garden’ character of the estate.

Places to Foster Community and Inclusion

The project includes indoor and outdoor amenity spaces to foster community amongst residents. Public Right of Ways create vistas and access to significant heritage structures and landscape elements. Hidden gardens and a public park serve as recreational hubs for residents and the local community.

What it is
A unique 10-acre site that combines contemporary multi-family housing with a Beaux-Arts mansion and elaborate Italianate gardens.

Modern architecture and nature blend along a tree-lined path with two people walking.
Heritage Buildings

Besides the Manor, the Gatehouse and Coach House are the other two heritage buildings on site. Converted to a single family home and a three home complex, these buildings were meticulously restored and upgraded—adding to the housing diversity of Shannon Estate.
