Perkins&Will’s Miami Studio Appoints Rosa Maria Colina as New Managing Director

Colina, an architect with over 25 years of experience in design, commercial development, and hospitality, will lead the next phase of growth for the firm’s Miami practice

MIAMI—Perkins&Will welcomes Rosa Maria Colina—an established design and real estate industry leader with both architectural and client-side experience—as managing director of the firm’s Miami studio. She succeeds Larry Kline, who led the studio for over a decade and will continue with the firm as a principal.

“Here in Miami, there’s no shortage of ambitious projects on the horizon, and with the incredible skill and talent of this Perkins&Will team, we’re already in a formidable position to win them,” Colina says. “My goal is to leverage my diverse professional background and experience managing large, high-performing teams to take the Miami studio’s success to the next level.”

Colina has practiced at some of the most recognizable names in architecture, commercial real estate, and hospitality. For more than 20 years, she practiced at three prominent New York-based design firms, building a portfolio that spans residential, retail, hospitality, museum, institutional, and mixed-use projects across the U.S., Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

Later, she served as vice president of design and construction at Related Companies, one of the most prolific privately owned commercial real estate developers in the U.S., and then as vice president of global residential design services for Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts. In these roles, Colina directed the design and construction processes for luxury residential and mixed-use projects in New York and Florida, overseeing all phases from pre-development to occupancy.

“Rosa Maria’s blend of design expertise, project leadership, and development experience is exactly what our Miami studio needs as we continue to grow our presence across South Florida and Latin America,” says Lindsey Peckinpaugh, president of Perkins&Will. “Having worked as an architect and as a client, she brings a unique perspective that will strengthen our relationships and elevate our work.”

Rosa Maria succeeds Larry Kline, who led the studio for over a decade and will continue with the firm as a principal.

As managing director, Colina is charged with ensuring the continued growth and success of the studio, championing excellence in client service, and fostering a workplace culture deeply rooted in Living Design. She joins studio leaders Pat Bosch, design director, and Carlos Chiu, operations director, with whom she will closely collaborate. Kline, who served as Miami’s managing director for the past 12 years, will remain a principal at the firm and provide consulting to support client relationships.

“Rosa Maria is a true global citizen. Her perspective, experience with top firms, and multilingual, multicultural background make her uniquely suited for Miami’s next chapter,” says Kline. “I’m confident she’ll do a great job carrying forward our studio’s legacy while charting an exciting path for the future.”

Projects recently completed by the Miami studio include the Cisnerous Group Headquarters in Miami; Gateway Center in Sunny Isles Beach; American Express Corporate Center in Sunrise; Jackson West Medical Center in Doral; and Ransom Everglades School’s STEM Building in Coconut Grove. With Miami on an upward architectural and development trajectory, Colina says she’s energized by the city’s—and the region’s—expanding opportunities.

“Larry leaves big shoes to fill, and I’m honored to receive the baton from him at this watershed moment for the Miami practice,” Colina says. “I look forward to working closely with Larry, and with my fellow studio leaders Pat and Carlos, to ensure a smooth and seamless transition. We’re all-in on Florida’s future.”

A registered architect in New York and Florida, Colina holds a Master of Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design and a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from Boston University. She’s been both a guest lecturer and design critic at Columbia University, Yale School of Architecture, and the New York Institute of Technology. Fluent in English, Spanish, and French, Colina has lived in New York, Florida, Peru, Ecuador, France, Italy, and England.

“After more than 20 years leading design and development for some of the world’s most discerning clients, I chose Perkins&Will for its commitment to excellence on every level. Together, our studio will set the design standard for the next generation of projects in Miami and beyond. Let’s make our mark.”
