Congratulations to our clients on their Coolest Offices of 2022 recognition from Crain’s Chicago. Each year, Crain’s celebrates the coolest new offices in the Chicago metropolitan area based on their design and functionality. The best offices are praised for incorporating forward-thinking design features and adapting their spaces to the needs and purposes of their business.
Two floors connected by cushioned, bleacher-style seating serve as the heart of the building and are the core of the learning and development space. Communal gathering is fostered with the Aspen Market food court with its blue brick and rough-hewn wood reflecting the bustling local neighborhood.
Natural lighting from floor-to-ceiling windows looking south across the city is enhanced by a swirling, thin sculpture of light designed to resemble dental floss. Landscaped outdoor terraces provide access to fresh air and additional opportunities to relax, with sweeping views to the east, south, and north.
The open offices provide a flexible range of working options—from work benches separated by low-rise warm, blond wood to long raised tables and hub-like areas for more relaxed gathering.
Perkins&Will was proud to serve as the Design Architect, along with the Experiential Graphic and Signage Design team at IA. Congratulations to The Aspen Group!
“We are thrilled to receive such a meaningful recognition that displays our commitment to our team. Nurturing a collaborative and supportive culture in our workplace to ensure our team members can thrive is essential for TAG’s continued growth,” said Jeri Doris, chief human resources officer of TAG – The Aspen Group. “This award is an important milestone for us in our mission to attract and retain top talent in the industry. We are always looking for ways to improve the work experience for our team members and make TAG one of America’s best places to work.”
Drawing on the rich, architectural history of the city, the design of the new Nixon Peabody Chicago office recalls the city’s famed prairie style. Wood flooring and slatted ceilings, a fluted wood reception desk, and a central linear fireplace welcomes you to the space. A keystone of the Nixon Peabody Chicago office is its stunning backdrop to the open stairs, featuring a custom recycled glass pixel-tile image of a huge white oak tree —the state tree of Illinois. Nixon Peabody’s brand shines throughout the office, with colorful felt wallcoverings and starburst angled light fixtures mirroring the law firm’s spark logo.
The design of the light-filled space showcases expansive views of Lake Michigan and reflects the commitment to its new flexible work environment offering a variety of workspace options that enable in-office, hybrid, and remote collaboration. The open layout allows for internal connection and impromptu meetings at the coffee bar and lounge on each level, or at the office pool table in the main cafe. This layout facilitates cross-pollination among the firm’s legal practices and connects attorneys and professional colleagues. The space offers a number of accommodations for colleagues and guests, including wellness rooms, mother’s rooms, and inclusive restrooms supporting all genders and abilities.
Sustainability is one of Nixon Peabody’s core values, and the office’s design demonstrates their commitment in action. Recycled and reclaimed materials, responsibly forested certified white oak veneer, and locally sourced building hardware are used throughout. We carefully selected fixtures to increase water efficiency, and LED lighting to optimize energy performance.
