Cummings Research Park Master Plan
Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County
3,800 acres / 1,537.8 hectares
In the beginning, Cummings Research Park helped fuel the Space Race and boost Huntsville to become “Rocket City.” This Master Plan will maintain the high trajectory of both the park and city well into the future.
Cummings Research Park (CRP) is one of the world’s leading science and technology research parks and seeks to remain so well into the future. The fundamental strategy for achieving that goal is to provide an attractive and high-performing setting for a wide range of programs and initiatives to come together and collaborate.
The growth and development of CRP over the last 55 years reveals the evolution of the research park design played out across the site and across the city. It is a showcase for the best practices in research parks of each era. Our challenge with the CRP, which brings together many research parks in one, is to respond to the ever-changing needs of researchers for the next 50 years...and beyond.
The master plan approach for CRP will be integrally linked to a revitalized market position for the economic development challenges facing the Huntsville region in the years ahead on how to spur a more innovation-driven economy. In this context, the CRP strength is not in its isolation, but as part of a network of unique research destinations that together form the Huntsville Innovation Ecosystem.
