Aaron Knorr

Architect AIBC, AAA, LEED AP, CPHD
Associate Principal, Vancouver

Aaron has always been fascinated by the built environment. Growing up in the American Midwest, he developed a deep curiosity about how cities are shaped, and the effect they have on us and the environment. This curiosity has driven a lifetime of studying the urban condition, which Aaron explores and responds to through his architectural designs and research.

The same spirit of inquiry that drew Aaron to architecture also inspires his approach to projects; by working collaboratively and creatively with—and learning from—clients, collaborators and stakeholders, he believes that teams can better understand and celebrate the unique context of each project. Across all of his work, Aaron seeks to be an agent for positive change with the aim to create a better world.

The Workshop
The design draws inspiration from the project's historical, typological, and material context to create a strong identity and adaptable framework that serves as a reflection of its place; as well as a catalyst and benchmark for the future.

Great Northern Way Office and Pavilion
Redistributing density on a long narrow parcel of land unlocked access to spectacular views while significantly expanding open space on site. The result is a generous and visible public realm—with an eye-catching retail pavilion at its centre—that has become both the front door and heart of a new creative district, and an elegant office building that is stitched into the fabric of the campus and the surrounding community.
Evergreen Line Stations
Each station is conceived as a catalyst for future development and is designed to complement the surrounding neighbourhood. Through intuitive connections and optimized orientation, the stations serve as anchors to vibrant transit-oriented communities that benefit from the connection to the wider region.

The use of local wood is celebrated through an expressed timber structure throughout the building—centered around the skylit atrium that serves as the social heart, echoing the experience of moving through the tree canopy surrounding the building.
Driven by the belief that the ecological imperative is one of our most important responsibilities, Aaron is a champion for regenerative design with a focus on reducing our carbon impact, greater efficiency, prioritizing healthy building materials, and investing in the rehabilitation of existing buildings.
A CRITICAL VOICE FOR POSITIVE CHANGE
Aaron is regularly engaged in research and speaking on topics that impact the livability of our cities.
