Stephen Coulston

AIA, LEED AP BD+C
Principal, Urban Design, Denver

Stephen grew up in West Texas where his parents were among the first in their families to transition from their farming-ranching heritage and earn a college degree. With a deep appreciation for the impact of a quality education, he graduated with an architecture degree and moved to the east coast where he began his design career.

After making his way back West, Stephen settled first in Austin and later Denver, Colorado. Here, connecting deeply with the outdoors and fast-changing, remarkable cities, he developed a strong appreciation for urban design and planning, recognizing how the integration of nature within the built environment can have a profound and positive impact on placemaking and influence our quality of life.

With a passion for working within the innovation economy, Stephen has developed an expertise in strategizing, planning and designing projects that lie at the intersection between higher education, research, healthcare, institutional, private industry, and the government sectors. As an architect, urban designer, and campus planner, he strives to find harmony between the built form and natural environment. As a process-oriented designer, Stephen seeks a to engage many voices, build consensus, and a shared vision that results in the design of more sustainable, equitable, resilient, and livable communities.
