Andrew Frontini

OAA, NSAA, FRAIC, LEED AP BD+C
Principal, Design Director, Ontario

As an aspiring young musician, painter and writer, Andrew was drawn to architecture through the sage advice of his uncle Fabio, a Milanese architect who convinced him that “all of the other arts happen inside architecture.”

Today, Andrew’s approach to design is driven by a strong social agenda. He uses bold material expressions and considered responses to context to create spaces around which communities form. By maintaining a design philosophy that is open and collaborative, Andrew never stops learning, producing and evolving. His award-winning designs for universities, municipalities, library systems and commercial clients have been published internationally.

Andrew has taught at the University of Waterloo and serves as a visiting critic at the University of Waterloo, University of Toronto and the Toronto Metropolitan University School of Architecture. He shares his passion for design through exhibitions, published articles and speaking engagements.

Engineering 5 marked the beginning of the transformation of Waterloo’s engineering program.
“Architecture is the stage on which a large part of our shared experience plays out. By framing reality and inviting movement, architecture creates the potential for encounters and interactions that can profoundly shape our lives.”
