Joe Connell is a visionary thought leader in the area of design and design process. As a Principal in the Chicago Interiors discipline, he challenges and inspires teams and clients to rethink the workplace in new and creative ways.
As an avid consumer of environmental behavior research, Joe was named to the technical advisory board for InformeDesign, a clearing house for design and environmental behavior research, directed by the University of Minnesota. He is also one of a few practitioners contributing to the ad hoc editorial review board by the industry's only scholarly journal, The Journal of Interior Design. Joe is a frequent design award and academic juror and has presented at IIDA and IDEC conferences, NeoCon and has won numerous awards including AIA Chicago Citation of Merit for Transora and The Interface Americas Showroom, the "Doc" award for the Monsanto project. Joe has been published in, or contributed to; Architectural Record, Chicago Architect, Interior Design magazine, Contract magazine and Communication Arts. He has co-authored a chapter Managing the Client Relationship in the Handbook of the Professional Practice and wrote a chapter on Design Thinking in The State of the Interior Design Profession.
Joe is an active Adjunct Faculty Advisory Board Member for Southern Illinois University, Department of Interior Design, his alma mater, and is a frequent professional contributor to Columbia College Chicago and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee design and architecture programs. Joe has been with Perkins+Will since 1983.
