Derek has a keen interest in green building and strives to deliver practical, elegant solutions that exhibit a responsible use of resources. His experience spans across a variety of project types and he is involved in all phases from site planning to construction. Drawing upon his background in urban design and experience in master planning, Derek approaches architecture with a strong appreciation for the building’s setting.
With a clear understanding of the British Columbia construction industry, Derek offers crucial team guidance regarding building envelope and systems coordination. His portfolio of work includes projects specializing in innovative design and timber construction techniques. He recently delivered the Orchard Commons mixed-use facility on the University of British Columbia’s Point Grey campus using computational design to optimize the high performance building envelope comprised of prefabricated modular panels. His recent portfolio also includes the Dilly Creek Workforce Accommodation in northeast British Columbia—an innovative prefabricated modular wood design using Passive House principles. Currently, Derek is working on a 340,000 square foot mixed-use development to comply with the City of Vancouver’s new Zero Emissions Building Plan, and is participating in the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Building Pilot Program.
